Frequently Asked Questions - For Students/Youth

  1. My partner and I are in different grades. Does this affect our registration? Can we win awards in different divisions?
    1. CWSF projects with finalists in different grade categories are assigned to the higher grade category – so if one partner is in Grade 10 and the other partner is in Grade 11, their project will be a senior project. You can’t nominate for or win awards in different categories. All awards, including special awards, are to the project, not the finalist(s), so when you are nominating for Special Awards, you are nominating your project, not yourselves.
  2. I can't connect my ProjectBoard project to my registration because it doesn't show up in My Projects in the YSC Portal. Why doesn't it show up?
    1. All regional STEM fairs and CWSF projects must be set to Public, which means that anyone with the direct URL, including the YSC Portal, can view them. This does not mean that the project is published anywhere for public viewing. Once you set the project to Public in ProjectBoard, you can connect to it in the YSC Portal.
  3. I uploaded the wrong file during my registration. How do I remove the one that's there to upload the correct file?
    1. Click the Browse button, select the correct form/file, and it will overwrite the previously uploaded file.
  4. I have more than one mentor. How do I submit multiple mentor forms as part of my registration?
    1. An individual mentor form should be completed for each separate mentor. These forms should then be combined into a single PDF for uploading to the YSC Portal during registration.
  5. I want to change my email address in the YSC Portal. How do I make this change?
    1. If you want to change email addresses in the portal, don’t create a new account, log in with the old email address and change the email address in General Contact Information. If you have an additional portal account with an email address that you now want to use on your active account (i.e if you have multiple YSC Portal accounts with different emails), the additional account will first need to be hard-deleted by a YSC Admin. Submit a ticket with a list of your email addresses and which one you want to keep.
  6. My project isn't going to be finished by the ProjectBoard deadline. What do I do?
    1. Finalists should upload as much information as they have available at the time of the deadline. Any new data they collect after the deadline can be added to their poster and explained during the judging sessions.
  7. Can I still see my project on ProjectBoard after the deadline? I'd like to copy the text to create my poster.
    1. Yes! You can still see your project on ProjectBoard after the deadline, you just won't be able to edit any of the information.
