Regional STEM Fair Eligibility Guidelines for Students

Regional STEM Fair Eligibility Guidelines for Students

Which Regional STEM Fair Should I Enter?

As you prepare to showcase your STEM project at a regional fair, it's important to understand the eligibility rules that determine which fair you can participate in.

Your Regional Fair Assignment

Youth Science Canada policy requires that you enter your project in the Regional STEM Fair (RSF) that covers either your home address or your school address. This ensures fair representation across all regions and gives students within each community equal opportunities to advance to the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF).

What If There's No Regional Fair in My Area?

If there is no Regional STEM Fair offered in either your home or school location, you have two options:

  1. Apply to participate in the YSC Virtual Regional Fair
  2. Apply to the RSF closest to your location

In either case, acceptance of your project will be at the discretion of the RSF organizers.

Important Notes

  • You cannot choose a different regional fair simply because you:

    • Missed the registration deadline for your assigned regional fair
    • Think it might be easier to be selected for CWSF from another region
    • Are unavailable on the date of your assigned regional fair
    • Have connections to another region
  • Attempting to register in a region other than your assigned one may result in:

    • Disqualification from the regional fair
    • Ineligibility for CWSF selection, even if you're initially chosen
    • Potential disqualification after the fact if the issue is discovered later

Questions About Your Eligibility?

If you're unsure which regional fair you should register for, please:

  1. Check the STEM Fair Finder on the YSC website to identify your assigned region
  2. Contact your regional fair organizers directly with specific questions
  3. If further clarification is needed, contact Youth Science Canada at support@youthscience.ca

Remember, these policies exist to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all students across Canada.
