Frequently Asked Questions - ProjectBoard

Frequently Asked Questions - ProjectBoard

  1. Is it possible to remove the bottom fixed titles for every section as it is more vague?
    1. No. We're using a consistent template, including the section titles, on purpose as it allows for a better experience for visitors and judges.
  2. Is there a way to add a new section to the project?
    1. No. We're using a consistent template with specific sections, on purpose, as it allows a better experience for visitors and judges at our event.
  3. Can I add 2 videos in the video section on ProjectBoard (both demo video and presentation)? Currently, it only allows me to add one.
    1. No, not in the Video section. The demo video could be added to any of the Why?, How?, What?, So What?, or What's Next sections using the Photo or Video button. Note that judges reviewing the projects are only expecting one one-minute video in the Video section, so they might not watch a video in another section. Ideally, a finalist would be able to show the video at their CWSF project on a mobile device/laptop.
  4. How do I remove the instructions in each section?
    1. If you've used ProjectBoard in the past, you know that you were required to delete all the instruction text before adding your own to each section. Obviously, this wasn't ideal if you got halfway through adding content and wanted to check the instructions. In 2024, ProjectBoard changed this functionality so that the instructions are now separate from the content. These instructions are only visible to those working on the project; they're hidden when the project is viewed by the public.
  5. What does the Export Button do on ProjectBoard?
    1. The Export button in ProjectBoard allows students to export a text file containing all the text in their ProjectBoard project. This can be used when creating a regional fair or CWSF poster, or if they’re required to submit a hard copy of their project for school evaluation.
  6. My project isn't going to be finished by the ProjectBoard deadline. What do I do?
    1. Finalists should upload as much information as they have available at the time of the deadline. Any new data they collect after the deadline can be added to their poster and explained during the judging sessions.
  7. Can I still see my project on ProjectBoard after the deadline? I'd like to copy the text to create my poster.
    1. Yes! You can still see your project on ProjectBoard after the deadline, you just won't be able to edit any of the information.
  8. I can't connect my ProjectBoard project to my registration because it doesn't show up in My Projects in the YSC Portal. Why doesn't it show up?
    1. All regional STEM fairs and CWSF projects must be set to Public, which means that anyone with the direct URL, including the YSC Portal, can view them. This does not mean that the project is published anywhere for public viewing. Once you set the project to Public in ProjectBoard, you can connect to it in the YSC Portal.
  9. How does my ProjectBoard presentation affect my CWSF judging score?
    1. Your ProjectBoard content is a key component of the Communication section in the CWSF judging rubric. Judges evaluate five elements: your ProjectBoard video, ProjectBoard content, evidence of organized record keeping, judging interview, and exhibit poster/display materials. The highest-scoring ProjectBoard presentations are informative and clearly written, strike a balance between clarity and brevity, include well-designed visual elements, use diverse references beyond web sources, and show thorough organization. Remember that judges are looking specifically at how effectively you communicate your work, not just the project itself. For technical guidance, refer to the ProjectBoard Entry Guide.
  10. Can I share my ProjectBoard project with people outside of CWSF?
    1. Yes! We encourage finalists to share their ProjectBoard project link with friends, family, teachers, and their community. Sharing your project is a great way to celebrate your achievement and help inspire others with your work. Your project represents the excellence of youth STEM innovation across Canada, and sharing it can inspire other students to pursue their own STEM projects. Even after CWSF concludes, your ProjectBoard project remains accessible as a showcase of your work that you can reference for university applications, job interviews, or future STEM competitions.
  11. How do I submit my ProjectBoard project before the deadline?
    1. There is no "submit" button for your ProjectBoard project. All projects will automatically lock at the deadline, and whatever content you have added by that time will be what judges review. Make sure you have completed all sections of your project before the deadline. We recommend finalizing your content at least a day before the deadline to avoid any last-minute technical issues.
