Navigating the CWSF App

The Canada-Wide Science Fair app is your digital companion for all things CWSF. Built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), it offers convenient access to essential information, schedules, and features to enhance your CWSF experience. This guide will help you make the most of the app and troubleshoot common issues.

The CWSF App is only intended for use by in-person participants (finalists, delegates, Team UV) at the fair in Fredericton. Users will be required to login using their YSC Portal credentials to access these areas of the website/app.

Getting Started

Downloading the App

The CWSF app is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you don't need to download it from an app store. Instead:

  1. Visit the CWSF website at cwsf-espc.ca on your mobile device
  2. Sign in using your YSC Portal credentials
  3. Look for the "Add to Home Screen" prompt (or similar message depending on your device)
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the PWA

If you don't see the prompt automatically:

  • On iOS: Tap the share icon (box with arrow) and select "Add to Home Screen"
  • On Android: Tap the three dots menu and select "Add to Home Screen" or "Install App"

Subscribing to Notifications

Stay updated with important announcements throughout the fair:

  1. Navigate to the Notifications page
  2. Click the "Subscribe to Notifications" button
  3. Allow notifications when prompted by your browser
  4. You'll now receive real-time updates about schedule changes, important announcements, and reminders

Offline Access

Yes, you can use parts of the app without internet access! Once you've visited a page while online, the app caches it for offline viewing. This means you can access previously viewed information even when you temporarily lose connection. The app will automatically update cached content when you regain internet access.
